      -x-5
  -  -5x^2 - 3

or

(-x-5) - (-5x^2 - 3)

First, distribute the -. So then it becomes

-x - 5 + 5x^2 + 3

Since you can't add 5x^2 to -x. You can only combine -5 and 3.
Thus it becomes
 - x + 5x^2 -2

However, you order in exponents so

5x^2 - x - 2

would be the correct answer.

-2x+3y=15, rearrange to write in slope-intercept form, y=mx+b, by isolating y.
Airida [17]
Y=2/3x+5 because -2x+3y=15 you have to +2x on both sides so it becomes 3y=15+2x. Then you divide 3 on both sides so it equals y=15+2/3. To makes it y=mx+b it becomes y=2/3x+5

in a certain game, a fair die is rolled and a player gains 20 points if the die shows a 6. if the die does not show a 6, the pla
BaLLatris [955]

The expected gain or loss is an illustration of mean and expected values.

The expected total gain is 83 points

The given parameters are:

  • Addition of 20 points for rolling a 6
  • Removal of 3 points for not rolling a 6

The probability of rolling a 6 in a fair die is 1/6.

The probability of not rolling a 6 in a fair die is 5/6.

So, the expected gain in each game is:

\mathbf{E(x) = 20 \times \frac 16 - 3 \times \frac 56}

\mathbf{E(x) = \frac{20}6 -  \frac{15}6}

Take LCM

\mathbf{E(x) = \frac{5}6}

\mathbf{E(x) = 0.83}

The number of games is 100.

So, the expected gain is:

\mathbf{Gain = 100 \times 0.83}

\mathbf{Gain = 83}

Hence, the expected total gain is 83 points

Brent divided three and one half by seven. What number did he get?
Katen [24]
I believe the answer is 1/2

I changed 3 1/2 to an improper fraction (7/2), then I had to find the reciprocal of 7, which is 1/7.  I then multiplied 7/2 by 1/7 which gave me 7/14, which I reduced to 1/2.

Hope this answers your question.
