A rugby player passes the ball 7.88 m across the field, where it is caught at the same height as it left his hand. (Assume the p

layer is facing the +x direction.) (a) At what angle (in degrees counterclockwise from the +x-axis) was the ball thrown if its initial speed was 13.1 m/s, assuming that the smaller of the two possible angles was used? ° counterclockwise from the +x-axis (b) What other angle (in degrees counterclockwise from the +x-axis) gives the same range? ° counterclockwise from the +x-axis

Explanation:

Given

Range of ball =7.88 m

Initial speed=13.1 m/s

and we know

Range of Projectile is

R=\frac{u^2sin2\theta }{g}

13.1=\frac{13.1^2\times sin2\theta }{9.8}

7.88\times 9.8=13.1^2\times sin2\theta

sin2\theta =0.4499

2\theta =26.74^{\circ}

\theta =13.37 ^{\circ}

(b)other angle would be complementary of \theta

=90-\theta =76.63 ^{\circ}

Answer:

Explanation:

Look at the equation for Potential Energy. PE = mass times gravity times the height. Filling in and solving for h:

34.3 = .5(9.8)h so

34.3 = 4.9h so

h = 7 meters

A piece of taffy slams into and sticks to another identical piece of taffy that is at rest. The momentum of the two pieces stuck
-Dominant- [34]

Answer:

C. 50%

Explanation:

Lets consider that the mass of taffy is m and its initial velocity is u and final velocity is v. Momentum is conserved so we can write it as,

mu = 2mv\\v = \frac{u}{2} \\

The initial kinetic energy = \frac{mu^{2} }{2}

As the Kinetic energy partly converted into heat.

The final kinetic energy = \frac{m(\frac{u}{2})^{2}  }{2} = \frac{mu^{2} }{4}

Change in the kinetic energy = \frac{mu^{2} }{2} - \frac{mu^{2} }{4} = \frac{mu^{2} }{4}

now we can determine the fraction of kinetic energy that has turned into heat

                           = \frac{Heat energy}{initial K.E} = \frac{\frac{mu^{2} }{4} }{\frac{mu^{2} }{2} }  = 1/2

                           = 50%
