Due to the conversation topic, there is surely some tension in the situation. Since Phillip plays many violent video games, he subconsciously might expect Roger to react violently, which is called Hostile Expectation Bias.

I always hate to see teachers make video games look bad, but this answer makes far more sense than any other explanation.
