When the debris gets liquified due to the addition of a large amount of water to it which leads to a rapid surging flow of the waste, then it is known as a mudflow.
Mudflow's main components are suspended particles and silt which gives it greater viscosity as compared to streamflow.
Snowfall, rains, etc. can cause mudflow and therefore, it commonly occurs in mountain slopes.
