Answer:

The correct sequence will be:

1. Pathogens will enter the body through a cut in the skin

2. Cells recognize foreign invaders

3. Histamine is released

4. White blood cells travel to the invaded area

5. Swelling and redness occur at the site of infection

Explanation:

Inflammation is an immune response of higher organisms triggered by damage to living tissues. It is a defense mechanism to remove damaged tissue and to eliminate the injurious agents in the body.

Inflammation response occurs:

Tissues injured or infected with foreign agents like micro-organisms, toxins, heat and are recognized by the damaged cell. Damaged cells, activates its host-defense mechanism by producing chemicals like histamine.

Histamines are biological active substances produced by the mast cells and basophil cells stored in granules and performs various functions in a body:

1. Attract white blood cells(leukocytes) from the circulation to the site of tissue damage. WBC perform a process called phagocytosis which eats germs and damaged cells and form pus.

2. Dilates blood vessels- cause blood vessels to leak fluid into the tissues, causing swelling. Swelling helps isolate the foreign substance from further contact with body tissues.

Thus, the sequence is correct.
