How you act at someone else's dinner table will affect how they feel about you. Think about when this will happen, when you will be asked to have dinner at another person's house. It might be a friend or the family of a girlfriend/boyfriend or a potential spouse, or even a business meeting. If you put them off with bad manners, it could cause them to see you in a worse light and you'll be less likely to be involved in their lives. It could ruin a relationship if the family of your girlfriend/boyfriend doesn't like you, and it could ruin a business deal if they see you as a disorganized slob.

Learning table manners at home is just good practice so you don't have to think about it or stress about it when you really get tested in the real world.
