Marbury v. Madison is the Supreme Court case that confirmed that the federal courts have the authority to declare laws unconstitutional. It did not necessarily create or establish the power as much as it confirmed that it is inherent in the power of the judicial branch even though it is not specifically stated in the Constitution. This was devised by Chief Justice John Marshall (former secretary of state to John Adams) when he declared parts of the Judiciary act of 1789 unconstitutional. William Marbury had been elected as a judge by Adams in the Judiciary act of 1801, but he was not commissioned by Marshall in time. When <span>Jefferson became president (March, 4, 1801), his secretary of state, James Madison, did not deliver the commission under the new Democratic-Republican party.</span>

2. created a code from which the Byzantine Empire derives its laws = Justinian I
Emperor Justinian I wanted to reform his empire, which is why he came up with a set of laws known as the Justinian Code in the 6th century. He wanted to revise the old Roman law and incorporate new ideas and rules into a new set of rules.

3. resolved the conflict between the empire and the church by restoring the use of icons = Empress Theodora
Theodora was the wife of Emperor Theophilos, a staunch iconoclast, meaning he supported the banning of icons. On the other hand, his wife fought for reinstatement of icons into churches, after which she was venerated as a saint.

Alborosie
He could've for example retreated and let communism spread which means he would not support fighting in Korea. It would've been different because you would probably have no South Korea since the North one was supported by China and without the US the south would've lost. This would probably happen if he supported an isolationist policy.
