In June of 1956, after several years of quarrels, the creation of the interstate highways was approved by <em>"The Federal-Aid Highway Act"</em> under President Dwight D. Eisenhower, the bill was also known as <em>"The National Interstate and Defense Highways Act"</em>, which significantly improved transportation within the country; an effort to do away with traffic jams, unsafe roads and inefficient routes yet also allowing quick evacuations in case of emergencies; one of the largest public work schemes in USA's history.
