Diploid eukaryotic cells have two haploid sets of chromosomes, one contributed by the mother, the other contributed by the father because sexually producing organisms like humans normally have diploid set of chromosomes which is contributed each by the two parent. The cells in humans that that are haploid set of chromosomes are the sex cells which is egg and sperm.
The egg and sperm fuse to together through reproduction a d fertilization occur when the sperm fertilizes the egg and the haploid set of chromosomes dude to form diploid set of chromosomes which is the offspring .
