How do Atoms become Ions? Answer in 3 to 4sentences

Chemistry

An atom is when the protons and electrons are equal protons have a positive charge and electrons have a negative charge so when they are equal they cancel each other out meaning they have no charge or they are an atom. An ion happens when the protons and electrons aren’t equal, it’s no longer an atom. When you have more protons then electrons you have a positive charged ion. When you have more electrons then protons you have a negative charged ion.

A 55.0-kg skydiver free falls for a period of time before opening his parachute. what is his kinetic energy when he reaches a ve
morpeh [17]
The kinetic energy of a moving object is calculated through the equation,
                                 KE = 0.5mv²
where KE is kinetic energy, m is mass, and v is the velocity. Substituting the known values in the problem above,
                                KE = 0.5(55 kg)(16 m/s)²
                                KE = 7,040 J
Thus, the kinetic energy of the skydiver is approximately equal to 7 kJ.

The table shows the number of charged subatomic particles in an ion.
Anarel [89]

Answer:

The ion will repel the substance because it has lost two electrons.

Explanation:

An ion is a charged specie. We can see from the question that the ion has twelve positive and ten negative particles.

If there are more positive particles than negative particles, then the ion is positively charged.

If the ion is positively charged, it will repel another positively charged particle because like charges repel while opposite charges attract.

When you standardized the Na2S2O3, what molarity of Na2S2O3 did you obtain?
nikdorinn [45]

Answer:

0.46M NaS₂O₃ (Assuming KIO₃ solution with a concentration of 1.0M)

Explanation:

Based on the reaction:

6 Na₂S₂O₃ + KIO₃ + 5 KI + 3 H₂SO₄ → 3 Na₂S₄O₆ + 3 H₂O + 3 K₂SO₄ + 6 NaI

6 moles of Na₂S₂O₃ react per mole of KIO₃

Assuming the molarity of the KIO₃ solution is 0,1M:

Moles of KIO₃: = 5.0x10⁻³L ₓ (0.1 mol / L) = 5.0x10⁻⁴ moles

As 6 moles of thiosulfate reacted per mole of iodate:

5.0x10⁻⁴ moles KIO₃ ₓ (6 moles Na₂S₂O₃ /  1 mole KIO₃) =

3.0x10⁻³ moles of Na₂S₂O₃. In 6.5mL (6.5x10⁻³L):

3.0x10⁻³moles Na₂S₂O₃ / 6.5x10⁻³ L = 0.46M NaS₂O₃
