Answer:

The number of child tickets were sold is 75

Step-by-step explanation:

Given as :

The price of tickets for child admission = $5.50

The price of tickets for adult admission = $8.60

The total numbers of tickets sold = 137

The total price of tickets sold = $986.00

Let The number of tickets for child = C

The number of tickets for adults = A

So, According to question

A + C = 137

And 5.50 A + 8.60 C = 986

Solve the above equation

5.5 A + 5.5 C = 137 × 5.5

or, 5.5 A + 5.5 C = 753.5

Or, ( 5.5 A + 8.6 C) - ( 5.5 A + 5.5 C) = 986 - 753.5

Or, (5.5 A - 5.5 A) + (8.6 C - 5.5 C) = 232.5

Or, 0 + 3.1 C = 232.5

∴  C = \frac{232.5}{3.1} = 75

And A = 137 - C = 137 - 75 = 62

Hence The number of child tickets were sold is 75. Answer

In a certain lake, trout average 12 in. in length with standard deviation 2.75 in. and the bass average 4 lb. in weight with sta
NISA [10]

Answer:

The bass fish was the better catch

Step-by-step explanation:

From the question we are told that

     The  population mean for trout is  \mu_1 = 12 \ in

     The  standard deviation is  \sigma_1  =  2.75  \  in

      The  population mean for  base  is  \mu _2  =  4 \ lb

      The standard deviation is  \sigma_2  =  0.8 \ lb

      The number of  trout caught   x_1 = 18

     The number of  bass caught  x_2 = 6

Generally z-value(standardized value ) for the of number  trout caught  is mathematically represented as

        z_1 = \frac{x_1 -  \mu_1}{\sigma_1 }

substituting value

       z_1 = \frac{18 -  12}{2.75 }

       z_1 = 2.18

Generally z-value(standardized value ) for the of number  bass caught  is mathematically represented as

        z_2 = \frac{x_2 -  \mu_2}{\sigma_2 }

substituting value

       z_2 = \frac{6 -  4}{0.8 }

       z_2 = 2.5

From our calculation we see that  z_2 > z_1

The  fish that was the better catch is the bass fish

The cedar trail is 2 7/8 miles long and the maple trail is 1 1/2 miles long how much longer is the cedar trail than the maple tr
S_A_V [24]

To find the difference in two lengths we need to subtract them

but here both length are given in mix fraction form

let us first try to write them in simple fraction form .

the first is : 2 7/8 we write it as : (8* 2 + 7 )/ 8 = 23/8

The second is : 1 1/2 we write it as : ( 2*1 + 1) /2 = 3/2

Let us now try finding difference : 23/8 - 3/2

as both have different number in the bottom we try to make a same number in denominator of both fractions .

2 can become by multiplying it to 4 .

let us multiply 3/2 by 4/4 it makes : ( 12 /8 )

now both fractions can be subtracted . (23/8 ) - ( 12/8 )

( 23 - 12 ) /8 = ( 11/8 )

that is the answer : 11/8 miles.
