Answer:

Permanent colostomy and impotence.

Explanation:

Abdominoperineal resection is a surgery used to treat colon cancer. In this surgery, the colon and lower rectum are removed. This surgery may require an opening in the abdomen where solid waste will be deposited, so patients undergoing it will need permanent colostomy. In women, this surgery causes damage to the nerves that control a woman's genital sensitivity and allow her to orgasm. Already in men causes impotence.

Ans. The abdominoperineal resection is a medical procedure that involves removal of rectum, anus, and sigmoid (descending) colon for the surgery of cancer of anus or rectum.

During abdominoperineal resection, the remaining end of sigmoid colon is brought out permanently or temporally as an opening, by a process known as colostomy. The resulting opening is called as stoma, which acts as a pathway for removal of gas and solid waste from body without passing through rectum.

Thus, 'the nurse should verifies that the client has understood that surgery would result in temporary colostomy in the descending colon.'
