Answer:

Both the median and the range changed.

Step-by-step explanation:

This data set is already in order:

4, 14, 15, 15, 16, 16, 18, 19, 20, 20, 21

The range is the difference between the minimum and maximum values.  This makes the range (with the outlier):

21 - 4 = 17

The median is the middle value; it is also known as Q2, the second quartile.  With the outlier, Q2 = 16.

The first quartile, Q1, is the middle of the lower half of data, below the median.  With the outlier, Q1 = 15.

The third quartile, Q3, is the middle of the upper half of data, above the median.  With the outlier, Q3 = 20.

The interquartile range, IQR, is the difference between Q3 and Q1.  With the outlier, IQR = 20 - 15 = 5.

Taking the outlier out, we have:

14, 15, 15, 16, 16, 18, 19, 20, 20, 21

The range is 21-14 = 7.  This is different.

The median is between 16 and 18; this makes it

(16+18)/2 = 34/2 = 17.  This is different.

Q2 is 15.  This is the same.

Q3 is 20. This is the same.

IQR is 5.  This is the same.

This means the only things that changed were the median and the range.

Jonesville and smithville each have a population of size 2600 at time t = 0, where t is measured in years. Suppose jonesville'
ehidna [41]

Answer: B. Jonesville is growing linearly and Smithville is growing exponentially.

Step-by-step explanation:

Linear growth :

  • Population grow by a constant amount after each time period.
  • The rate of change of dependent variable with respect to independent variable is a constant.
  • It is represented by line on graph.
  • Equation for linear growth : y=mx+c , c = initial value and m is the rate of change of y with respect to x.

Exponential growth :

  • Population grow by a constant ratio .
  • It is represented by a curve on graph.
  • Equation for exponential growth : y=a(1+r)^x , a = initial value and r is  rate of growth ( in decimal ) and x is time period.

Given : Jonesville's population grows by 170 people per year.

i.e .Population grow by a constant amount per year.

⇒ Jonesville is growing linearly.

The population of smithville grows by 7% per year.

i.e. Population grow by a constant ratio.

⇒Smithville is growing exponentially.

Hence, the true statement is "B. Jonesville is growing linearly and Smithville is growing exponentially."

\frac{2}{3} x + \frac{1}{6} = -\frac{3}{4} x + 1

First, simplify \frac{2}{3} x to \frac{2x}{3} / Your problem should look like: \frac{2x}{3} + \frac{1}{6} = -\frac{3}{4} x + 1
Second, simplify \frac{3}{4} x to \frac{3x}{4} / Your problem should look like: \frac{2x}{3} + \frac{1}{6} = -\frac{3x}{4} + 1
Third, multiply both sides by 12 (the LCM of 3 and 4) / Your problem should look like: 8x + 2 = -9x + 12
Fourth, subtract 2 from both sides. / Your problem should look like: 8x = -9x + 12 - 2
Fifth, simplify -9x + 12 - 2 to -9x + 10. / Your problem should look like: 8x = -9x + 10
Sixth, add 9x to both sides. / Your problem should look like: 8x + 9x = 10
Seventh, add 8x + 9x to get 17x. / Your problem should look like: 17x = 10
Eighth, divide both sides by 17. / Your problem should look like: x =  \frac{10}{17}

Answer as fraction: x = \frac{10}{17}
Answer as decimal: x = 0.5882
