Is the price worth paying? What are you going to do if you don't pay that price?  Move away to another society with different cultures and norms?  What happens if you don't agree with some of those things in the new society?  If everyone's opinion and feelings were taken into account all the time, the system would not work.  Too many people have "feelings" and opinions about the way things should work and many would spend all their time fighting about the "way it should be."  To achieve stability and "peace" in a society, some people do have to sacrifice these things to keep the peace.
