so it's a little too dark to see what the diameter is, so whatever that number is, divide it by 2 so it is half of what the number is. that is your radius. your height (40) is already given. Plug in this to your calculator, (with whatever the radius is) 2(3.14)(r)^2+2(3.14)(r)(40). just remember that "r" is your radius which is half the diameter!

Seeing the solution is a negative number but your left side of the equation is a positive number tells us we have to divide by a negative number on the left side and right to give us the solution...
