The purpose of the twelfth amendment was to fix a flaw that had been discovered. Because of the flaw, Thomas Jefferson tied in the Electoral college with his vice presidential candidate <span>Aaron Burr. It changed the system because it no longer had legislators choose but rather the people in an indirect vote.</span>
