To make an line perpendicular to another, you must take the slope of the first line and find its negative inverse to put in the second.
3y=x-6 --> y=(x-6)/3 --> y=1/3x-2
The slope of the first line is 1/3 so the slope of the second line will be -3.
Now you must use the point slope formula to find the actual equation of the second line.
y-y1=m(x-x1) --> y-(-7)=-3(x-4) --> y+7=-3x+12 --> y=-3x+5
Now you need to translate that to function notation, which is pretty easy. Simply remember f(x) = y. So...
f(x)=-3x+5, and that's your answer.
Remember to check your answers using a graphing calculator. If you don't have one, you can use one online. I recommend using https://www.desmos.com/calculator.

Two fifth graders solved 400,000 divided by 800. Carter said the answer is 500, while Kim said the answer is 5,000.
mestny [16]

Answer:

a. Carter is correct. (See explanation).

b. The quotient is 500 (The quotient of 400,000 divided by 800 and the quotient of  is 4,000,000 divided by 8,000 are equal).

Step-by-step explanation:

a. Carter is correct.

The dividend 400,000  and the divisor 800 have two zeros in common, so we can eliminate those zeros. Then:

4,000\div8

We know that the quotient obtained by dividing 40 and 8 is 5:

40\div8=5

Since4,000 has two more zeros than 40, we must place two zeros in the quotient. Then:

=500

b. The dividend 4,000,000  and the divisor 8,000 have three zeros in common, so we can eliminate those zeros. Then:

4,000\div8

Notice that this is the same as the exercise "a". So the quotient will be the same.

Let's check. We know that:

40\div8=5

Since4,000 has two more zeros than 40, we must place two zeros in the quotient. This is:

=500

Two numbers are between 10 and 20. Their greatest common factor is 3. Which two numbers could they be?
alina1380 [7]

Answer:

12 and 15     or

12 and 18    or

15 or 18

Step-by-step explanation:

The two numbers have to both be divisible by 3, since their greatest common factor is 3.  This only leaves..

12, 15, or 18     (no other numbers between 10 and 20 are divisible by 3)

The factors of 12 are: 2, 3, 4, 6, and 12

The factors of 15 are: 3, 5, and 15

The factors of 18 are: 2, 3, 6, 9, and 18

All three numbers have 3 as a greatest common factor, so we have 3 pairs of numbers they could be...

12 and 15     or

12 and 18    or

15 or 18
