Read the excerpt from chapter 4 of The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. At this moment, however, the rooms bore every ma

rk of having been recently and hurriedly ransacked; clothes lay about the floor, with their pockets inside out; lock-fast drawers stood open; and on the hearth there lay a pile of grey ashes, as though many papers had been burned. From these embers the inspector disinterred the butt end of a green cheque book, which had resisted the action of the fire; the other half of the stick was found behind the door; and as this clinched his suspicions, the officer declared himself delighted. How does this excerpt develop the plot?
The condition of the room and its contents cause Mr. Utterson and Inspector Newcomen to plan a trip to the bank in hopes of catching Mr. Hyde.

The condition of the room and its contents cause Mr. Utterson and Newcomen to start investigating someone other than Mr. Hyde.

The condition of the room and its contents cause Mr. Utterson and Inspector Newcomen to consider Mr. Hyde as a murder suspect.

The condition of the room and its contents cause Mr. Utterson and Inspector Newcomen to contact Dr. Jekyll to see if he can provide any answers.

Answer:

The condition of the room and its contents cause Mr. Utterson and Inspector Newcomen to plan a trip to the bank in hopes of catching Mr. Hyde.

Explanation:

The excerpt in the question came from the fourth chapter titled the Carew Murder Case. We can see in this chapter that inspector Newcomen and Mr. Utterson had been questioning Mr. Hyde's actions since they had seen him behave suspicious lately. The investigators visited Mr. Hyde's room during the investigation and pointed out that his house was in a mess. The inspectors then decided that Mr. Hyde may not know what happened in his house so they went straight to the bank to investigate further. They learned on their arrival at the bank that his account was loaded with millions of pounds. The scene strengthens the story because it finally shows enough evidence for the prosecutor and the officer to continue investigating Hyde and trying to prove his guilt.

How does an intransive verb diffee from a transive verb
Elena-2011 [213]

Answer:

A verb can be described as transitive or intransitive based on whether it requires an object to express a complete thought or not. A transitive verb is one that only makes sense if it exerts its action on an object. An intransitive verb will make sense without one. Some verbs may be used both ways.
