Egypt was interested in accepting different kinds of aides like weapons, food, and medicines from the 2 competing empires. As this happened, Egypt first vowed its allegiance to USSR and as it was slowly blowing its power away, Egypt saw the opportunity and transferred allegiance to USA in the middle of the cold war.
