Research papers should synthesize ideas from sources in order to show the writer's own point of view.
Instead of quoting directly a full source, a professional research paper must contain a summarized analysis or viewpoint from other sources' ideas to support the researcher's arguments.
Citing an author, and explaining his/her ideas in a concise and synthesized manner, can provide a strong validity and relevance to a research paper.
