Typical United States weather patterns show the continental polar air mass moving south toward the Gulf of Mexico. Why does this

air mass movement happen?
A) Colder air masses move from north to south.

B) Continental air masses always move in the direct of the nearest body of water.

C) The polar air mass moves south to replace the rising maritime tropical air mass.

D) The continental polar air mass is blocked in by maritime air masses on all sides.

C) find alternatives to fossil fuels.

D) reduce the number of vehicles on the roads.

5) Nicolaus Copernicus was a Polish astronomer who is best known for the theory that the sun is near the center of the universe and that the earth and other planets revolve around it. Copernicus did not believe that the planets were influenced by or revolved due to the sun; instead he believed that the sun was located near the center of the universe and that it was this center which influenced those bodies and caused them to revolve. When this theory was first published, the scientific community did not accept it. Which reason BEST explains the reason for rejection of this theory?

A) It was not published until his death.

B) It was not understood by scientific world.

C) It lacked sufficient evidence and explanation.

D) It lacked practical examples in supporting theory

Answer:

1) Why does this air mass movement happen? <em>Colder air masses move from north to south.</em> (A)

2)  Running a mineral across a porcelain plate to see the color it leaves behind on the plate may be described as testing for <em>streak</em> (D)

3) <em>Carbonization </em>preserves soft tissues of plants or animals as a thin carbon film, usually in fine-grained shale sediments.

4) If we wanted to reduce the use of nonrenewable natural resources, it would be least important to <em>reduce deforestation</em> (A).

5)  Which reason BEST explains the reason for rejection of this theory? <em>It lacked sufficient evidence and explanation (</em>C<em>).</em>

Explanation:

1) In the poles, there are high-pressure zones due to the low temperature, and the cold and dense air. These high-pressure centers send winds or air to higher latitudes toward the equator. While this is happening, they get warmed as they travel and they start accumulating humidity. When they reach approximately 60 degrees latitude, they meet with warm winds that are coming from the horses' latitude (30 degrees latitude), which are also heated. They both ascend to the tropopause where they get cooled. As they cannot maintain humidity, it precipitates. Once done this, the winds move back to the poles, where they get cooler again, and so the cycle continues. This cycle is known as the polar cell, and together with the Ferrell cell and the Hardley cell, they help modulate the clime.

2) Streak method is used in mineralogy to identify different mineral species. It consists of making run, strongly, a peace of mineral on a white pure surface, on which the mineral will leave a powdery trace of a certain color, which is characteristic of than mineral. This color is the clue to identify the mineral nature by comparing it with another known trace.

3) Carbonization is the term used for the conversion of an organic substance in carbon. Organic matter, accumulated in the past in the different stratum of the terrestrial cortex, loose hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen, increasing its carbon proportions.

4) By reducing deforestation, we can reduce the excessive use of a renewable resource. By reducing deforestation trees can grow again and produce more biomass, which can be used in the future, and this is why it is called renewable.  If we wanted to reduce the use of nonrenewable natural resources, then we should act on natural gas use, fossil fuels use or gasses emission. Gas and fossil fuel can not regenerate, and by emitting gases, we are polluting the environment, the air, which can not be renewed either.

5) The reason for the rejection of Copernico´s theory was that there was not enough evidence to demonstrate the theory. It lacked evidence, which enhanced the suspicion about this revolutionary theory.

Which process is directly responsible for the trails of a comet facing away from the sun
Anettt [7]

Answer: The correct answer is D. Heating by the sun.

Comets are balls composed of dust and ice orbiting around the Sun in elliptical orbits. The orbit of the comet takes it near and far away from the sun. As the comets get closer to the Sun, the heat of the sun vaporizes the materials on the surface of the comet which forms a tail pointing away from the sun.

A comet tail is visible from Earth when they are illuminated by the Sun on approaching the inner Solar System. The solar radiations vaporize the volatile materials of the comet which streams out from the nucleus and carries dust away with it. The pressure due to the Sun’s radiation and solar winds leads to the formation of a tail pointing away from the Sun.

Researchers studying the rigidity and flexibility of the cell envelope used chemotaxis to measure the ability of microbes to squ
vlada-n [284]

Answer:

D. there is less structural carbohydrate.

Explanation:

Most bacterial cells have a cell wall located outside the plasma membrane, formed by peptideoglycan or murein, which provides protection and shape to the cell. In addition to the wall, some bacteria have a polysaccharide capsule that surrounds this structure, this capsule is a carbohydrate envelope that can allow more or less flexibility to the bacterial cell. The more structural carbohydrates the polysaccharide capsule has the less flexible the bacteria will be. Thus, we can say that if E. coli has the most flexible cell envelope, compared to the envelope of other bacteria, it is because there is less structural carbohydrate in the E. coli envelope.
