I'm not sure if this will help, but Twain was against imperialism. He spoke out against what happened in the Philippines during the Philippine-American War (in which rebels fought against the US for not recognizing them as a republic -- this after the Spanish American War) and was concerned over the direction that the country was taking with those actions. Keith, on the other hand, was a businessman and entrepreneur who eventually created the United Fruit Company. Through his business holdings in Costa Rica and the Central American region, his companies managed to influence a great deal of the local economy. Instead of using armies and soldiers to take over a country, his companies did the same thing -- through the economy -- turning many areas into private preserves that fed his business interests. In that way, he was definitely something of an imperialist.

4.16: A New Century Unit Test
Mazyrski [523]

Answer:

c. They wanted immigrants barred from the United States.

Explanation:

Nativism refers to a political position that privileges the welfare and the interests of the people who have been born in certain place (the natives) over immigrants. As more and more immigrants moved to the United States in the late 19th century, the nativist movement gained strength, and they wanted immigrants barred from the United States, especially those coming from China, Italy, and Eastern Europe. The nativists scored some successes, especially with the passing of the Emergency Quota Act of 1921, which placed restrictions on how many immigrants could enter the United States. This Act was further expanded by the Immigration Act of 1924, which banned immigrants from Asia and set strict limits on immigrants from other parts of the world, especially Eastern Europe. This discriminatory policy stayed in force until the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.

B. How did General Howe make his attack on the United States?
tangare [24]

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

You did not include the map, we can comment on the following.

General Howe made his attack on the United States in the following way. General William Howe was to attack north from New York. Other generals such as John Burgoyne was coming down from the Canadian territory. So Howe decided to invade and capture the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, instead of having a strategic plan that supported the efforts with Burgoyne's troops. What General Howe wanted to do is to gain support from Loyalists in Philadelphia. Let's have in mind that Philadelphia was a key city in those years because it was the place where the Continental Congress was located.
