Farm population fell dramatically due to the rapid growth of urbanization in the world economy. However, agriculture benefited from the growing urban population due to the demands as food consumers. As a result, agricultural production increased by 50% thanks to the quality of labor, the capital, more efficient use of machinery as well as fertilizers among others.

Some that were affected by the British think of land as privately owned. I think the answer <em><u>(Land was so important it was often controlled by a community's  leader)</u></em> is the correct answer to your question. I've never read anything about land being so important that it was controlled by the leader.
