Answer:

A-the high literacy rate in American colonies

Explanation:

In the central decades of the 18th century (the "century of lights"), the cultural movement of the Enlightenment spread rapidly from France (Montesquieu, Voltaire, Rousseau, the encyclopedists) to the Anglo-Saxon world (which in fact had preceded and influenced notably with the scientific and political revolution of the seventeenth-century: Newton, Locke, Berkeley - who resided in America - or Hume), and particularly in the Thirteen Colonies of North America, where it found sufficiently trained elites, an especially favorable public opinion, a high literacy rate, and a free and dynamic press. The intellectual debates had a clear influence on the political and social movement of the American (or "American") revolution, which led to the formation of an independent United States (1776). Among the enlightened Americans were both local characters (Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams or James Wilson) and British people settled in the new nation (Thomas Paine or Joseph Priestley). Most of the so-called "founding fathers" can be considered both politicians and intellectuals of enlightened tendency, who politically defended the concept of the social contract, civil and political rights, and religious tolerance. The reconciliation between reason and faith through a deist sensibility, which rejected dogmas and mysticism and demanded a complete separation between the churches and the State, is characteristic of the American illustration.

Analyzing Why do you think having three separate branches of government was a persuasive argument for ratifying the Constitution
OleMash [197]

Answer:

The fact of having three separate branches of government was a persuasive argument for the ratification of the Constitution because, through the differentiation of the executive, legislative and judicial powers, the creation of tyrannical or totalitarian governments became very difficult. Thus, American citizens were guaranteed the permanent validity of their individual liberties and civil rights, which could not be curtailed or limited by dictatorial rulers, as the republican system itself establishes a system of checks and balances that allows members of the a specific branch to control the rest.

What led to the passage of the Alien and Sedition Acts? What made them so controversial?
balandron [24]

The Alien and Sedition Acts (1798) were four laws passed by Federalists that restricted the activities of foreign residents in the country, allowed the government to deport foreigners seen as "dangerous", made it difficult for immigrants to vote, requiring them to reside for 14 years in the U.S. to become eligible to vote, and it prohibited public opposition to the government.

1. What led to the passage of the Alien and Sedition Acts?

The Acts were passed after the diplomatic incident called "XYZ Affair" that almost involved the United States and France in war. Facing French foreign threat, the Federalist President Adams created the acts as a way to prevent subversion in the United States against governmental measures.

2. What made them so controversial?

The Acts, especially the Sedition Act, were so controversial because it violated people's rights of freedom of speech and of the press protected under the First Amendment. Under the acts, anyone who wrote, printed, uttered or published any writing seen as false, scandalous and malicious against the government could be imprisoned or would have to pay fines.
