xand y are light house. y being 20km due east of x and from a ship due south of x the bearing of y was 055°. what is the distanc
leonid [27]

Answer:

I) |xz| ≈ 28.6 km

II) |yz| ≈ 34.8 km

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's assume that the position of ship due south of x is z (aà pictor representation of the question is attached)

|xy| = 20 km, |xz| = ?, |yz| = ?, θ(y) = 55°

Using Trigonometric ratio - SOHCAHTOA

I) Tan θ = |xz| ÷ |xy| ⇒ Tan 55° = |xz| ÷ 20

|xz| = 20 * Tan 55 = 20 * 1.428

|xz| = 28.56 km

|xz| ≈ <u>28.6 km</u>

<u />

II) Cos θ = |xy| ÷ |yz| ⇒ Cos 55° = 20 ÷ |yz|

|yz| * Cos 55° = 20 ⇒ |yz| = 20 ÷ Cos 55°

|yz| = 20 ÷ 0.574 = 34.84 km

|yz| ≈ <u>34.8 km</u>

Determine if the graph is symmetric about the x-axis, the y-axis, or the origin.
Alexandra [31]
Answer: y-axis.

Explanation:

The equation <span>r = 3 - 4 sin θ may be graphed using cartesian coordinates (i.e. x and y) or polar coordinates.

The logical way is to graph in polar coordinates. I did it using </span>a graphing software and obtained the attached graph.

Also, I attached the graph in cartesian coordinates.

Here you have a table that you can build by your self and use the pairs to draw the graph (either cartesian or polar coordinates).

<span> <span><span> θ (rad)    r = 3 - 4 sin θ </span> <span>

0               3 </span> <span>
π/8            2.61731657 </span>
<span> π/4            2.29289322 </span> <span>
3π/8          2.07612047
</span> <span> π/2            2
</span> <span> 5π/8          2.07612047 </span> <span>
3π/4          2.29289322 </span> <span>
7π/8          2.61731657 </span> <span>
π               3 </span> <span>
9π/8          3.38268343 </span> <span>
5π/4          3.70710678 </span> <span>
11π/8        3.92387953 </span> <span>
3π/2          4 </span> <span>
13π/8        3.92387953 </span> <span>
7π/4          3.70710678 </span> <span>
15π/8        3.38268343 </span> <span>
2π             3 </span> </span></span>

In both of the attached graphs you can see that the left side is equal to the right side, but the upper side is not equal to the bottom side.

Therefore, the graph is symmetric about the y-axis.

Suppose <img src="https://tex.z-dn.net/?f=m" id="TexFormula1" title="m" alt="m" align="absmiddle" class="latex-formula"> men and
ollegr [7]

Firstly, we'll fix the postions where the n women will be. We have n! forms to do that. So, we'll obtain a row like:

\underbrace{\underline{~~~}}_{x_2}W_2 \underbrace{\underline{~~~}}_{x_3}W_3 \underbrace{\underline{~~~}}_{x_4}... \underbrace{\underline{~~~}}_{x_n}W_n \underbrace{\underline{~~~}}_{x_{n+1}}

The n+1 spaces represented by the underline positions will receive the men of the row. Then,

x_1+x_2+x_3+...+x_{n-1}+x_n+x_{n+1}=m~~~(i)

Since there is no women sitting together, we must write that x_2,x_3,...,x_{n-1},x_n\ge1. It guarantees that there is at least one man between two consecutive women. We'll do some substitutions:

\begin{cases}x_2=x_2'+1\\x_3=x_3'+1\\...\\x_{n-1}=x_{n-1}'+1\\x_n=x_n'+1\end{cases}

The equation (i) can be rewritten as:

x_1+x_2+x_3+...+x_{n-1}+x_n+x_{n+1}=m\\\\&#10;x_1+(x_2'+1)+(x_3'+1)+...+(x_{n-1}'+1)+x_n+x_{n+1}=m\\\\&#10;x_1+x_2'+x_3'+...+x_{n-1}'+x_n+x_{n+1}=m-(n-1)\\\\&#10;x_1+x_2'+x_3'+...+x_{n-1}'+x_n+x_{n+1}=m-n+1~~~(ii)

We obtained a linear problem of non-negative integer solutions in (ii). The number of solutions to this type of problem are known: \dfrac{[(n)+(m-n+1)]!}{(n)!(m-n+1)!}=\dfrac{(m+1)!}{n!(m-n+1)!}

[I can write the proof if you want]

Now, we just have to calculate the number of forms to permute the men that are dispposed in the row: m!

Multiplying all results:

n!\times\dfrac{(m+1)!}{n!(m-n+1)!}\times m!\\\\&#10;\boxed{\boxed{\dfrac{m!(m+1)!}{(m-n+1)!}}}

4(x^2 - 5) + 2(3x^2 + 6)
Dmitriy789 [7]

Answer:

=10x2−8

Step-by-step explanation:

4(x2−5)+2(3x2+6)

Distribute:

=(4)(x2)+(4)(−5)+(2)(3x2)+(2)(6)

=4x2+−20+6x2+12

Combine Like Terms:

=4x2+−20+6x2+12

=(4x2+6x2)+(−20+12)

=10x2+−8
