What does "a 4-inch candle" mean ?
Is that the length of the candle or its diameter ?

The life of a candle depends on its length, its diameter, the
thickness and starting-length of its wick, the exact substance
of which it's composed ... the type of wax ... and the motions
of the air around it.

I'll always remember the candle shop I visited ... I don't remember
what I was doing in a candle shop, but I was there.  There was a
little wax turkey up on a glass shelf, with a tiny tiny flame in the
middle of its back, so tiny that you could easily miss noticing it.
The little sign standing next to the little turkey on the shelf explained
that this was a Thanksgiving candle ... it was lit last Thanksgiving,
and would continue burning until NEXT Thanksgiving, roughly a year later !

Well, it depends on what kind of candles (big, small, regular, etc.) but some takes 7 hours

A 30-kg child stands at one end of a floating 20-kg canoe that is 5.0-m long and initially at rest in the water. The child then
Yuliya22 [10]

Answer:

The canoe move 3 m in water.

Explanation:

Given that,

Mass of the child, m = 30 kg

Mass of canoe, M = 20 kg

Length of canoe, L = 5 m

  • Since initially the boat is floating, its center of mass was at rest. So, when child moves on the boat from one end to the other end, the boat moves in opposite direction in such a way that the displacement of their center of mass remains at rest.
  • Let x be the displacement of canoe in opposite direction to the motion of child, therefore  displacement of child is L - x

So, the displacement of the center of mass is given by :

d_{cm}=\dfrac{m(L-x)-Mx}{m+M}\\\\0=\dfrac{m(L-x)-Mx}{m+M}\\\\m(L-x)-Mx=0\\\\30(5-x)-20x=0\\\\x=3\ m

So, the canoe move 3 m in water.

The height of a triangle is 4 in. greater than twice its base. The area of the triangle is no more than 168 in.2. Which inequali
olga2289 [7]

<span>The height (h) of a triangle is 4 in. greater than twice its base (x): h = 2x + 4
</span>The area of the triangle is no more than 168 in.2: A ≤ 168 in²

The area of the triangle is A = x*h/2
Hence x*h/2 ≤ 168 in²

Substitute h in the formula for the area:
h = 2x + 4 = 2(x + 2)
x*h/2 ≤ 168 in²

x * 2(x + 2)/2 ≤ 168
x * (x + 2) ≤ 168
x² + 2x ≤ 168
x² + 2x - 168 ≤ 0

Using the formula for quadratic equation:
x_{1,2} = \frac{-b+/- \sqrt{ b^{2}-4ac } }{2a} = \frac{-2+/- \sqrt{ 2^{2}-4*1*(-168) } }{2*1}=  \frac{-2+/- \sqrt{ 4+672 } }{2}=  \\  \\ \frac{-2+/- \sqrt{ 676 } }{2}=\frac{-2+/- 26 }{2} \\  \\ &#10;x_1 =  \frac{-2+26}{2} = \frac{24}{2} =12 \\  \\ x_1 =  \frac{-2-26}{2} = \frac{-28}{2} =-14&#10;
