The poem’s arrest seems to have been the result of the poem questioning accusations of having committed a crime ("it was dangerous to ask why?") which was taken by law enforcement as a resist to be arrested.

Explanation:

Dargan´s poem is part of his book of poetry Anagnorisis, a collection that addresses racism in the United States, by describing the poem´s unfair arrest.

In real life, racial biases are common in the actions of law enforcement, which leads to discriminatory persecution of African Americans in the United States.
