The sun is classified as Main sequence and dwarf star on the Hertzsprung-Russell diagram.

Basically, the main sequence dominates the HR diagram. It stretches from the upper left (hot, luminous stars) to the bottom right (cool, faint stars). The sun is simply one of the countless stars in the universe.

It is basically an example of G-type main sequence start, GV2 also known as yellow dwarf. The sun is located on the main sequence with temperature of around 5,400 kelvin and also with a luminosity of 1.

Further Explanation

In the study of stellar evolution, one of the major tools is Hertzsprung Russell Diagram (HR diagram). It was developed by Ejnar Hertzsprung and Henry Norris Russell in the 1990s.

The diagram plots the temperature of stars against their luminosity. Based on its initial mass, the evolutionary stages that every star goes through are determined by its internal structure and how its energy is produced.

All the revolutionary changes corresponds to a luminosity and change in temperature of the star, which moves to different regions as it progresses on the HR diagram.

The HR diagram presents a group of stars according to their evolutionary stages and one the crucial features on the diagram is the main sequence.

Apart from the main sequence, the other 2 main regions of the HR diagram include: the red giant and the white dwarf.

Answer:

Main Sequence and Dwarf star

Explanation:

The sun is classified as a main sequence star as it has a luminosity equal to one and temperature of 5400 Kelvin or more.

Main sequence stars consists of hot luminous star which spend major part of their life in burning hydrogen and helium.

The main sequence star stretch from bottom right to upper left corner of the HR diagram.

However, sun being small in size (as compared to other stars) also goes through the stage of white dwarf while dying out.
