D. Readers can use them to understand a visual element's content.

Sometimes when you are researching or reading (be it a book, magazine, online article, etc.), you will encounter pictures, drawings, charts, and graphs. Beneath these images, there will sometimes be a caption that includes information which will elaborate or describe the content in order for you to gain a better understanding of what it is you are seeing or for the author detailing some specific information he or she feels you should know in order for you to better understand a topic/point being presented or argued.

Tyra wanted her dress muted with soft colors so that it would complement the vibrant surroundings.
adell [148]

Answer:

D. Barry was told to mute his hand motions when he was in front of the camera.

Explanation:

I'd have to say D because in the sentence given at the beginning of the question, the word "mute" is used as to tone down the color of her dress. So, we can tell that it's used to tone down on something. In the sentence in the last answer choice, he was told to mute his hand motions (used like to explain that he needs to tone down, or stop doing hand motions) while in front of the camera. We know it's not A, because mute in that sentence is used to describe someone who is silent, or does not talk. We know it's not B, because the word is used to describe Ashlee as speechless. And, we know it's not C because the word is used to describe the b in the word "numb" as silent.

Therefore, I believe the correct answer choice is D.

What are some examples of the historical allusions used in Dante's Inferno?
Dima020 [189]

Answer:

Dante alludes to the feud between the Guelphs and Ghibellines, which dominated the politics of central Italy in Dante's time.

Explanation:

The Guelphs supported the Pope in a power struggle with the Holy Roman Empire. The Ghibellines supported the Holy Roman Empire against the Pope. Guelphs tended to come from the merchant or middle classes, while Ghibellines tended to be land-owning aristocrats.

In the Inferno, Mosca dei Lamberti is being punished in hell for, in Dante's opinion, having started the bitter and bloody feud between the Guelphs and Ghibellines. Mosca is in the ninth circle of hell, the place where the sowers of discord and the creators of papal schism are confined. Mosca must wander around until he encounters the devil, who repeatedly slashes off his arms. Mosca shares this space with another historical figure, Mohammed (or "Mohamet"), who supposedly sowed discord by founding Islam.
