What Diane will experience is a period of mourning. There are five stages, at first, she will feel confused and sad because of the loss of her mother, then angry about the sudden illness, blaming the cruel life. She can pretend that death never happened, try to ignore it but in the end, she will feel very sad and melancholic, remembering the good times with her mother and missing her. The last stage is acceptance, though all the people are different so she may not feel all the stages in that order.  

If the mourning doesn’t exist, Diane could have a reprimed trauma who can affect her health and her relationship with her work, family or relationships in the future.
