Two bodies, with heat capacities C₁ and C₂ (assumed independent of temperature) and initial temperatures T₁ and T₂ respectively,

are placed in thermal contact. Show that their final temperature T_f is given by T₁ = (C₁T₁ + C₂T₂)/(C₁ + C₂). If C₁ is much larger than C₂ . show that T_f = T₁ + C₂(T₂ -T₁)/C₁.

Explanation:

<u>Given:</u>

  • Initial Temperature of the body(1) with heat capacity C_1 is T_1
  • Initial Temperature of the body(2) with heat capacity C_2 is T_2

The heat lost by one body will be equal to the heat gained by other body by first law of thermodynamics.

Let assume that  T_1 is greater than T_2 and T_f be the final temperature of both body.

C_1(T_1-T_f)=C_2(T_f-T_2)\\T_f=\dfrac{C_1T_1+C_2T_2}{C_1+C_2}\\

If C_1 is much larger than C_2 then final temperature   T_f will be

T_f=T_1+\dfrac{T_2C_2}{C_1}

A bird sits on top of a 639 m tall tower. If it's gravitational potential energy up there is 2033 J, what is its mass?
iris [78.8K]

The mass of the bird is 0.32 kg.

<u>Explanation:</u>

Gravitational potential energy, the energy exhibited by an object at rest due to the influence of gravitational force. So the increase in distance of object from the surface of earth leads to increase in the gravitational potential energy. Thus,

       \text {Gravitational potential energy}=m \times \text { Acceleration } \times \text { Distance of bird from bottom }

So, as the gravitational potential energy is given as 2033 J and the position of bird placed on the tall tower is 639 m away from the bottom, then the mass (m) of the bird can be found as below.

       m o f \text { bird }=\frac{\text {Gravitational potential energy}}{a \times \text {Distance}}=\frac{2033}{9.8 \times 639}=\frac{2033}{6262.2}

So, finally we get the bird's mass as,

            m of bird = 0.32 kg

What is the tangent function used to find and what are its units
Verizon [17]
The functions of angles are used to find unknown lengths or angles that can't be measured, in terms of known quantities. The trig functions of angles are ratios of lengths, so they're bare naked numbers without units.
