What is the main idea of Seventh Grade by Gary Soto?

In Seventh Grade, Gary Soto is trying to convey (show) to the reader that you should remain acting like yourself. For example, "Mr. Bueller remembered his college years when he dated girls in borrowed cars. She thought he was rich, until he ended up broke." (121). This evidence shows that you should not lie, or change your identity, just to impress someone else. As a result, you might end up earning a consequence you would not expect. If you plan on changing your identity, prepare yourself for the consequences because it might not be what you expect.

The story is about perservence because the teenager named Victor is super detrimend to get teresa as his sweet lovable girlfriend in seventh grade. Victor is feeling super great about himself, because Teresa asked him to be her tuder for French class and that might mean he wants to get to know him better also. By the end of the seventh grade story Victor is super duper excited that he might have a chance to get Teresa and his seventh grade girlfriend.
