4. Large, circular lily pads are able to float on the water's surface.

Answer: cohesion

Cohesion mean that water attracted to another water. This force will make the water to form a surface tension in the lake. Water lily has a wide and thin leaf which makes it giving a low force per area. If the force applied on the surface is not bigger than surface tension, the leaf will stay float above the water. Surface tension also the reason water spider could walk on water.

5. The temperature of the water is about 5°C, while the temperature of the air is about 21°C.

Answer: heat capacity

Water has high heat capacity. High heat capacity mean that the water will not be easily become cold or hot. It will need more energy to increase/decrease the temperature of the water. This is why the water could keep its temperature much lower than the atmosphere. This will protect the organism inside the water from an extreme temperature change.

Answer:

For 4: The correct answer is adhesion

For 5: The correct answer is heat capacity.

Explanation:

Adhesive forces are defined as the molecular forces which are present between different substances. For Example: When water is poured into glass, the molecular forces between the walls of container and water molecules.

Cohesive forces are defined as the molecular forces which are present between same substances.

Heat capacity is defined as the amount of heat energy that is required to raise temperature of a substance per unit of mass. It is a physical property.

 • For 4:

The molecular forces between circular lily pads and water is strong. Thus, circular lily pads float on water's surface.

Hence, the correct answer is adhesion.

 • For 5:

In water, hydrogen bonding is present, which is strong. So, in order to overcome this bonding, we need to apply more heat. So, the amount of heat required is more to raise the temperature. Thus, it has high heat capacity.

This is the reason the temperature of water is about 5°C while the temperature of air is about 21°C.

Hence, the correct answer is heat capacity.

What is fusion and how does it relate to e=mc squared?

E = mc2 Meaning

At the beginning of the 20th century, the notion of mass underwent a radical revision. Mass lost its absoluteness. One of the striking results of Einstein’s theory of relativity is that mass and energy are equivalent and convertible one into the other. Equivalence of the mass and energy is described by Einstein’s famous formula E = mc2. In words, energy equals massmultiplied by the speed of light squared. Because the speed of light is a very large number, the formula implies that any small amount of matter contains a very large amount of energy. The mass of an object was seen to be equivalent to energy, to be interconvertible with energy, and to increase significantly at exceedingly high speeds near that of light. The total energy of an object was understood to comprise its rest mass as well as its increase of mass caused by increase in kinetic energy.

In special theory of relativity certain types of matter may be created or destroyed, but in all of these processes, the mass and energy associated with such matter remains unchanged in quantity. It was found the rest mass an atomic nucleus is measurably smaller than the sum of the rest masses of its constituent protons, neutrons and electrons. Mass was no longer considered unchangeable in the closed system. The difference is a measure of the nuclear binding energy which holds the nucleus together. According to the Einstein relationship (E = mc2) this binding energy is proportional to this mass difference and it is known as the mass defect.

When comparing genomes from different species, scientists are often interested in the genome density, or the number of genes per
Setler79 [48]

The human genome density ranges between 12-15 genes per Megabase pairs. This is because humans have approximately 2000 genes in a total of approximately 3 billion base pairs. However, some primitive organisms have an even larger gene density than humans. An example is bacteria with gene densities ranging between 100 – 500 genes/Mb. Gene density is therefore not a good characteristic in determining the complexity of an organism.
