<u>“The Ambitious Guest” by Nathaniel Hawthorne. </u>

1. Claim/Topic Sentence: (Define the literary term.)

A personification is...

<u>Personification is a literary device in which a thing (an object, an idea, an animal) is given the qualities of a person. In other words, the non-living objects are described in such a way that we see they can act like human beings (to feel, to do something, etc).</u>

2. Quoted Example/Evidence from “The Ambitious Guest”:

An example of personification in the story is in the line.

<u><em>"The light hovered about them fondly, and caressed them all."</em></u>

3. Analysis: How did this impact the story? Explain in your own words (3-4 sentences).

Personification is a great way to describe something so that the readers can better understand it. In our case, Nathaniel Hawthorne used personification in this line, so that we could paint a picture in our mind. We can imagine that the light was bright and everywhere, the whole room was filled with beautiful light. Personification was used here as imagery.

I hope it helped you :)

What is a simile? A) A simile is an indirect comparison and a type of figurative poetic device. B) A simile is a direct comparis
AURORKA [14]

The correct answer is the following: <em>option B. A simile is a direct comparison and a type of figurative poetic device.</em> A simile is a type of figure of speech generally used in poetry to make a comparison to show similarities between two different things. It is a direct comparison instead of an indirect one because it uses words such as "like" or "as" to make the resemblance between the two things that are being compared to each other. Poets use similes as a tool to convey their sentiments and thoughts in a vivid way.

Use word roots and context clues to determine word best competes each sentence Plsagisrism is the act of copying a writer's word
bulgar [2K]

This question is about the use of foreign words or expressions to complete the sentences.

Answer:

Plagiarism is the act of copying a writer's words verbatim and claiming them as one's own.

I had a sense of déjà vu when I saw the girl who looked just like her mother used to.

I trust you completely. You have complete carte blanche to arrange the party.

Explanation:

<u>Saying or writing something verbatim means using the exact same words that were originally used.</u>

<u>Déjà vu is an expression which refers to the illusion of remembering scenes, the feeling of having already lived this moment, or simply a feeling of familiarity.</u>

<u>The French expression "carte blanche" means giving someone complete freedom to do something because you trust them entirely.</u>

<u>As we can see, all the expressions above make sense when we take the context clues of each sentence into consideration.</u>
