Answer:

D.The vertex form is f(x) = −(x +3)^2 + 4. The standard form is f(x) = −x2−6x−5.

Let's begin with  <span>f(x) = a(x-h)^2+ k.  Note that we must use "^" to indicate exponentiation.  Write (x-h)^2, not (x-h)2.

If (-3,4) is the vertex, then the above equation becomes f(x) = a(x-[-3])^2 + 4, or

f(x) = a(x+3)^2 + 4.  We are told that the graph passes through (-1,0), so must now substitute those coordinates into the above equation:

f(-1) = a([-1]+3)^2 + 4 = 0 (0 is the value of f when x is -1)

Then we have a(2)^2 + 4 =0, or 4a + 4 = 0.  Thus, a = -1.

The equation of this parabola is now f(x) = -(x+3)^2 + 4.

Write it in "standard form:"  f(x) = -(x^2 + 6x + 9) + 4, or
                                           f(x)  = -x^2 - 6x - 9 + 4, or
       answer =>                   f(x) = -x^2 - 6x - 5 = ax^2 + bx + c

Thus, a=-1, b=-6 and c= -5.</span>

Form ratios.

x, the small triangle, forms a ratio with 6, the big triangle.

The part of the side that is equal(with the dash) that is part of the small triangle is equal to 6-x, the big triangle.

Yes, you can cross-multiply here!

\frac{6}{x}  =  \frac{8}{6-x}

<em>Now,</em><em> </em>cross multiply.
P.S. Use distributive property.

36-6x = 8x

Add 6x on both sides.

36=14x

Divide by 14 on both sides.

x = \frac{36}{14} = \frac{18}{7}

Given that P(A)=0.5 and p(AUB)=0.6 find the P(B) if P(A/B) =0.4?
Yuki888 [10]
First we have to find p(AnB)
P(A/B)=p(AnB)/p(A)
P(AnB)=p(A) x p(A/B)
P(AnB)=0.5 x 0.4 = 0.2
Then to find p(B)
P(A∪B) = P(A) + P(B) - P(A∩B)

P(A∪B) = 0.5+p(B)-0.2
0.6=0.3+p(B)
P(B)=0.6-0.3=0.3

A certain bridge arch is in the shape of half an ellipse 106 feet wide and 33.9 feet high. At what horizontal distance from the
nata0808 [166]

Answer:

The horizontal distance from the center is 49.3883 feet

Step-by-step explanation:

The equation of an ellipse is equal to:

\frac{x^2}{a^{2} } +\frac{y^2}{b^{2} } =1

Where a is the half of the wide, b is the high of the ellipse, x is the horizontal distance from the center and y is the height of the ellipse at that distance.

Then, replacing a by 106/2 and b by 33.9, we get:

\frac{x^2}{53^{2} } +\frac{y^2}{33.9^{2} } =1\\\frac{x^2}{2809} +\frac{y^2}{1149.21} =1

Therefore, the horizontal distances from the center of the arch where the height is equal to 12.3 feet is calculated replacing y by 12.3 and solving for x as:

\frac{x^2}{2809} +\frac{y^2}{1149.21} =1\\\frac{x^2}{2809} +\frac{12.3^2}{1149.21} =1\\\\\frac{x^2}{2809}=1-\frac{12.3^2}{1149.21}\\\\x^{2} =2809(0.8684)\\x=\sqrt{2809(0.8684)}\\x=49.3883

So, the horizontal distance from the center is 49.3883 feet
