Answer:

Journey 1: The travel starts at 30 mph for two hours, after which there is a rest of two hours. The journey then continues slightly faster, at 40 mph for one hour. Then it is time for another rest of one hour. At this point we are 100 miles from home. We return home after two hours of traveling at 50 mph.

Step-by-step explanation:

The slope of the line indicates the speed and can be calculated by dividing the traveled distance by the time it took. This way you can describe all the journeys. Can you do the other two?

olchik [2.2K]

Peter's account is 910-40x, and Marla's account is 470-2x. This is a system, so you must find the number that makes both equations end up with the same number. Basically trial and error. Here is what I did:

Let's try the number 10. 910-400=510 and 470-20=450. I need a higher number.

Let's try 13 next. 910-520=390 and 470-26=444. Now the number has to be lower.

Let's try 12. 910-480=430 and 470-24=446. Close, and a little lower.

11.5 is too low, and 11.7 is too high. 11.6 has Equation 1 at 446 and Equation 2 at 446.8. Very close!

It is somewhere around 11.6. I hope that this can give you a start in figuring it out, because I don't believe in giving the complete answer, because then you do not learn anything from it.

Please write an equation in slope intercept form that is parallel to the equation
gtnhenbr [62]

Answer:

y=1/4x-1.5

Step-by-step explanation:

So, because the line is parallel, the slope is the same. Then, to get the y-int, you do b=y-mx with the point, so the equation is b=-1-(1/4)(2), then you multiply to get b=-1-(0.5), so your y-int is -1.5.

Find the larger of two consecutive integers if the larger is 149 less than twice the smaller.
snow_tiger [21]

Answer:

151

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x = the smaller integer and y = the larger integer.

We have two conditions:

(1)   x + 1 = y

(2)       y =  2x - 149      Substitute (1) into (2)

    x + 1 = 2x - 149        Add 150 to each side

x + 150 = 2x                 Subtract x from each side

        x = 150                Substitute into (1)

150 +1 = y

       y = 151

The larger integer is 151.

Check:

(1) 150 + 1 = 151

          151 = 151

(2)       151 = 2×150 -149

          151 = 300 -149

          151 = 151
