The nervous system takes in information through our senses, processes the information, and triggers reactions.

for example, if you touch a hot plate, you reflexively pull back your hand. Your nerves simultaneously send pain signals to your brain.

They have little things at the ends that are almost like sensors that detect and analyze what you're supposed to feel and they send a signal to you brain to tell you how to react.
