y= 1.5x - 4
y= -x

replace y= -x into y= 1.5x - 4

y= 1.5x - 4
-x = 1.5x - 4

1.5x +x = 4
2.5x = 4
x = 1.6

y= -x
y = -1.6

answer: (1.6, -1.6) is the solution

We can solve this by using substitution method:

instead of y put -x in the first equation:

y = 1.5x - 4  =>  -x = 1.5x - 4
                          -x + x = 1.5x - 4 + x
                           0 = 2.5x - 4
                           0 + 4 = 2.5x - 4 + 4
                           2.5x = 4
                           x = 4/2.5
                           x = 1.6 and y = -1.6

klasskru [66]

Answer: $3.25

Step-by-step explanation:

First you need to calculate the cost of the 8 pounds of nuts.

Cashews = 4 x $4 = $16

Peanuts = 4 x $2.50 = $10

The total cost of 8 pounds of nuts equals $16 + $10 = $26

In order to calculate the cost of 1 pound of the mixture you need to divide the total cost by the total weight.

$26 / 8 lbs = $3.25 / lb

The cost of one pound of the mixture is $3.25.

Recycling can help reduce garbage, but items such as disposable diapers cannot be recycled.

The landfill, along with many other considerations, is paying the price for our practice in over population. We have spent our immense wealth on sex and reproduction and convenience with the result of things like diapers which, once used, cannot be recycled. It is a point really well taken. We cannot keep on filling our land and oceans with products that cannot be disposed of any other way. We need to be considering alternate ways of accomplishing the same thing.

Tumor counts: A cancer laboratory is estimating the rate of tumorigenesis in two strains of mice, A and B. They have tumor count
Igoryamba

Answer:

The observed tumor counts for the two populations of mice are:

Type A mice = 10 * 12 = 120 counts

Type B mice = 13 * 12 = 156 counts

Step-by-step explanation:

Since type B mice are related to type A mice and given that type A mice have tumor counts that are approximately Poisson-distributed with a mean of 12, we can then assume that the mean of type A mice tumor count rate is equal to the mean of type B mice tumor count rate.

This is because the Poisson distribution can be used to approximate the the mean and variance of unknown data (type B mice count rate) using known data (type A mice tumor count rate). And the Poisson distribution gives the probability of an occurrence within a specified time interval.
