Hi there!

Let the first number be represented by X.
The second number (which is 2 more than four times the other), can be represented by 4X + 2.

We can now find the sum of this expression.
X + 4X + 2

Collect terms
5X + 2

The sum of the numbers is 18. Therefore we can set up the following equation.
5X + 2 = 18

Subtract 2.
5X = 16

Divide both sides by 5.
X = 16/5 = 3 1/5.

Therefore, the first number is 3 1/5. To find the second number we must plug in X = 3 1/5 into the expression 4X + 2

4 * (3 1/5) + 2 = 12 4/5 + 2 = 14 4/5
The two numbers are
3 \frac{1}{5}  \:  \: and \:  \: 14 \frac{4}{5}

~ Hope this helps you!

PLEASE HELP... VERY URGENT... WILL GIVE BRAINLIEST!!!
lakkis [162]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

a) Pythagorean theorem,

altitude² + base² = hypotenuse²

h²  + (w² - 1)² = (w² + 1)²

                    h² = (w² + 1)² - (w² - 1)²

{Compare with (a + b)² - (a -b)² = 4ab where a =w² & b = 1}

                   h² = 4*w²*1

                   h² = 4w²

                   h=\sqrt{4w^{2}} = \sqrt{2*2*w*w} \\\\\\h = 2w

b) Area of triangle = \frac{1}{2}b*h

                               =\dfrac{1}{2}*(w^{2}-1) *2w\\\\= (w^{2}-1)*w = w^{2}*w - 1*w\\\\=w^{3}-w

c) w =2

Area of triangle = 3w = 3*2 = 6

Writing and Solving an Equation to Find Negative Integers Two negative integers are 5 units apart on the number line, and their
Shtirlitz [24]

Answer:

-23

Step-by-step explanation:

Let first negative integer = x

The second = x +5

Their product = 126, hence,

x * (x +5) = 126

x^2 + 5x = 126

x^2 + 5x - 126 = 0

Two numbers whose product gives - 126 and sun gives 5

x(x + 14) - 9(x+14) =0

(x - 9) = 0 or (x + 14) = 0

x = 9 or x = - 14

Since x is said to be a negative integer,, the our x = - 14

First integer = - 14

Second integer = (x + 5) = (-14 + 5) = - 9

Sum of both integers :

-14 + - 9 = - 23
