Answer:

Methemoglobinemia; blue baby syndrome

Explanation:

Nitrate poisoning in newborn infants causes methemoglobinemia, also known as blue baby syndrome.

Nitrates in the body are converted to nitrites, which oxidize the Fe²⁺ in one of the hemoglobin (Hb) sub-units to Fe³⁺, forming methemoglobin (metHb).

The three remaining sub-units get an increased affinity for oxygen so, even though metHb is oxygen-rich, it does not give up its oxygen to the tissues.

Excess metHb gives the blood a dark bluish-brown colour, so babies with methemoglobinemia usually exhibit cyanosis (a bluish cast to the skin).

Answer: Anoxia, Blue baby Syndrome

What are the two correct terms for nitrate poisoning in newborn infants?

Newborn infants that are exposed to nitrate poisoning are said to be suffering from (Hypoxia, Anoxia, Malnutrition, Denitrification) also known as (Hunger, Thirst, Blue Baby Syndrome, Jaundice).

Explanation:

The Definition of Anoxia means lack of oxygen.

Blue baby syndrome can refer to a number of conditions that affect oxygen transportation in the blood, resulting in blueness of the skin in babies. Both of these conditions cause cyanosis, or a bluish discoloration of skin or mucous membranes. Normally, oxygenated blood appears red and deoxygenated blood has more of a blue appearance. In babies with low levels of oxygen or mixing of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood, the blood can have a blue or purple color, causing cyanosis.

Blue baby syndrome also known as methemoglobinemia, is a blood disorder that occurs due to intake of water which is contaminated with large amount of nitrates. Inside the body nitrates metabolise and convert to nitrites which then bind with oxy-haemoglobins and convert them to metheglobin.

When sperm and ovum unite at conception, a(n) __________ results. autosome gamete zygote allele?
frosja888 [35]

Answer;

-Zygote

When sperm and ovum unite at conception, a zygote results.

Explanation;

-Conception occurs when a sperm cell from a fertile man swims up through the vagina and into the uterus of a woman and joins with the woman's egg cell (ovum) as it travels down one of the Fallopian tubes from the ovary to the uterus.

-A zygote is the union of the sperm cell and the ovum. Also known as a fertilized ovum, the zygote begins as a single cell but divides rapidly in the days following fertilization. After this two-week period of cell division, the zygote eventually becomes an embryo.

AlexFokin [52]
Digoxin toxicity is a poisoning that occurs in people due to excessive intake of the medication digoxin or the consumption of plants such as foxglove and lily of the valley that contain digoxin. Manifestations for digoxin toxicity that the nurse should monitor for before administering this medication are vomiting, loss of appetite, confusion, blurred vision, arrhythmias, decreased energy, and irregular heartbeat. The nurse should also closely monitor the electrolyte levels because low levels of potassium and magnesium increase the risk for digoxin toxicity. If digoxin is administered, the heart rate should be counted before every dosage. If the heart rate is lower than 60 beats per minute, the drug should be stopped and the health care professional should be notified.
