Full Question

Let X be from a geometric distribution with probability of success p.

Given that P ( X > a + b | X > a ) = q ^ { b } = P ( X > b ) for any positive integer x.

Show that for positive integers a and b, P(X > a + b | X > a) = P(X > b).

Answer:

P(X > a + b | X > a) = P(X > b)

Proved --- See Explanation

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

P ( X > a + b | X > a ) = q ^ { b } = P ( X > b )

From the above.

We can derive the following

P(X > a), P(X > b) and P(X > a + b)

P(X > a) = q^a

P(X > b) = q^b

P(X > a + b) = q^(a + b)

Using the definition of conditional probability

P(X > a + b | X > a) can be represented by P(X > a + b and X > a)/ P(X>a)

X>a+b and X>a is equivalent to X>a+b since a+b is larger than a

So,

P(X > a + b and X > a)/ P(X>a) can be rewritten as

P(X>a + b)/P(X > a)

Bringing both sides together, we're left with

P(X > a + b | X > a) = P(X>a + b)/P(X > a)

By substituton

P(X > a + b | X > a) = q^(a+b)/q^a

P(X > a + b | X > a) = q^(a + b - a)

P(X > a + b | X > a) = q^(a - a + b)

P(X > a + b | X > a) = q^b

Since P(X > b) = q^b

So,

P(X > a + b | X > a) = P(X > b)

Convert 6.25 to degrees
Elenna [48]
I'm going to take a guess that you are wanting to convert 6.25 radians to degrees.  If I'm wrong, then ignore this!  Use the fact that 1 radian = 57.2958°.  Using the factor label method of conversion, we have 6.25r* \frac{57.2958deg}{1r}.  The radian label cancels leaving us with degrees.  6.25*57.2958=358.09°

ray bought 5 lemons and 3 limes for $7.20. Lia bought 4 lemons and 6 limes for the same price. How much would it cost to buy 1 l
Tcecarenko [31]
5x+3y=7.2--->-2(5x+3y)=7.2*-2--->-10x-6y=-14.4
4x+6y=7.2--->4x+6y=7.2------------>4x+6y=7.2

-6x=-7.2---->x=7.2/6 or 1.27
4(1.27)+6y=7.2---->5.08+6y=7.2----> 6y=2.12
y=.35
