Synthetic invention is referring to how rubbers and it's relatives are formed, from their chemical formation, through knowing their structures. These can be categorized under a chemistry class, while Physics deals with force, work, nature, heat, energy but not chemical composition or forming or synthetic. So, it's the wrong class for a Physics student.
