A ball is launched from a sling shot. Its height, h(x), can be represented by a quadratic function in terms of time, x, in secon

ds.
After 1 second, the ball is 121 feet in the air; after 2 seconds, it is 224 feet in the air.

Find the height, in feet, of the ball after 3 seconds in the air.

Answer:

309 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

In order to solve this I have to assume that the sling shot is ground level.  Since you did not provide an initial height, without making the assumption that it is 0, we cannot solve the problem at all.

The standard form of a quadratic function is

f(x)=ax^2+bx+c

c is the initial height for which we are going to sub in a 0.  Given 2 points, we are going to plug in the y and the x, one point each into 2 quadratic functions, to find the model.  The first coordinate is (1, 121):

121=a(1)^2+b(1)+0 and 121 = a + b

The second coordinate is (2, 224):

224=a(2)^2+b(2)+0 and 224 = 4a + 2b

Solve the first equation for a:

a = 121 - b

and sub it in for a in the second equation:

224 = 4(121 - b) + 2b and

224 = 484 - 4b + 2b and

-260 = -2b so b = 130.

Now we can sub that in for b and solve for a:

a = 121 - 130 so a = -9.

The equation then that models the motion is

f(x)=-9x^2+130x

Now that we know that, all we have to do now is to find f(3):

f(3)=-9(3)^2+130(3) and

f(3) = 309 ft

The area of a rectangular flower bed is 24 square feet. The perimeter of the same flower bed is 22 feet. What are the dimensions
Vesna [10]

Answer:

3 ft by 8 ft

Step-by-step explanation:

We were given the area as 24 square feet which means that

L×w= 24....eqn(1)

We were given the perimeter as 22 square feet which means that

22= 2(L +w).......eqn(2)

If we divide both cause by 2 in eqn(2) we have

11= L+ w .....eqn(3)

W= 11-L.........eqn(4)

Substitute eqn(4 into eqn(1)

L× (11-L)=24

-L^2 +11L-24=0

If we factorize

(L-8)(L-3)

L=3 or 8

From eqn4)

W=11-L

At L=3

W=11-3=8

Hence, the dimension is 3 ft by 8 ft

How would you solve this problem? (Worth 10 points, pls help!)
mrs_skeptik [129]

Answer:

(22,0)

Step-by-step explanation:

1. Select any two points given and find their slope (rise/run)

       (-38, 40) and (-23, 30)

      slope =   \frac{40-30}{-38-(-23)} = - 2/3

2. Use the slope and one of the points to create an equation of the line in the format y = mx + b, where m = slope and b = y-intercept.

    y = mx + b ⇒ 40 = -2/3 (-38) + b

3. Solve for b

   40 = -2/3 (-38) + b

   40 = 76/3 + b

   40 - 76/3 = b

   b = 44/3

4. To find the x-intercept, set y = 0, and solve.

   y = -2/3 x + 44/3

   0 = -2/3 x + 44/3

   2/3 x = 44/3

   x = 22

Hope this helped!

the sale price of a pair of pants is 65% of te regular price of $25. How much so you save by buying the pants on sale?
zysi [14]
$25 times 0.65 = $16.25 & then you do $25 - $16.25 which equals $8.75. So you save $8.75 by buying the pants on sale.
