Given

Annual fixed costs for a product are $75,000.

The product i sells for $6

it costs $2 in variable costs to make each product.

the variable cost per unit goes up to $2.50

find out how many units will the annual break-even point for the product change .

To proof

FORMULA

Break even = Fixed cost ÷  Contribution margin per unit

where

Contribution margin per unit = sale price - variable price

Take two cases

Case first

fixed costs for a product =  $75,000

product itself sells =  $6

variable costs  = $2

put all the value in the above equation

we get

Contribution margin per unit = 6 - 2

                                               = 4

Break even (say B1 ) = \frac{75000}{4}

                                        = 18750 units

CASE SECOND

the variable cost per unit goes up to $2.50

put value inthe formula

Contribution margin per unit = 6 - 2.50

                                               = 3.5

Break even (say B2 ) = \frac{75000}{3.5}

we get

Breakeven (sayB2) = 21428.6 unit

change in the break even product = B2- B1

                                                         = 21428.6 - 18750

                                                        =  2678.6 unit

Hence proved

Is the difference between two negative numbers numbers is always negative.
Lorico [155]
Yes. Think of it like this. You borrowed $1 from your friend for a candy bar. You now have -$1 because you owe your friend money. If you ask your friend for another $5 because you found another thing you wanted you have -$6. When you already have a negative, you are subtracting even more from that, which brings you to an even higher negative number

Explain why each function is continuous or discontinuous. (a) The temperature at a specific location as a function of time (b) T
Mekhanik [1.2K]

Answer:

(a) The temperature at a specific location as a function of time.

This is a continuous function as the temperature cannot increase in an instant like time.

(b) The temperature at a specific time as a function of the distance due west from New York City.

This is a continuous function as the temperature in one location is affected by its neighboring places.

(c) The altitude above sea level as a function of the distance due west from New York City.

The altitude above sea level can be discontinuous at a cliff, or continuous at very deep hole.

(d) The cost of a taxi ride as a function of the distance traveled.

This is a discontinuous function as the cost still raises if you make a stop.

(e) The current in the circuit for the lights in a room as a function of time.

This is a discontinuous function as the function takes the value of 0 when the switch is off and 1 when the switch is on.

The electron traveling speed makes this discontinuous.
