<span>Well, as far as this universe is concerned, it is a singularity that's "behind" a black hole, but in all truth, "Behind" really IS "inside." Gravity is a direction that points outside the universe into another dimension. Gravity is a curviature of space-time, and since we're always in space, you can't look or point in the actual direction space is being bent.
From a 3d space perspective, there's more space behind the black hole. You can come at it from any angle just as you would a planet or star. The "hole" leads down to a point in space that is infinitely compressed - infinitely dense; basically, a shrinking down to nothingness. You can't see the singularity, because it is surrounded by the event horizon - the point-of-no-return where gravity becomes so strong that even light cannot escape.
