Answer:

2 \frac{1}{2} + 1 \frac{3}{4}=4\frac{1}{4}

So, Betty bought 4\frac{1}{4} of meat.  Or put another way she bought 4 full portions of meat plus a 1/4 portions of meat.

Step-by-step explanation:

To know the amount of total meat she bought, both quantities must be added:

<em>2 \frac{1}{2} + 1 \frac{3}{4}</em>

It is called mixed fraction or mixed number to expressions that are composed of an integer and a fractional part, as in this case.

The most common procedure to add mixed numbers is to add the whole parts to each other and on the other hand the fractions to each other.

In this case it will begin adding the fractions to each other.

To calculate the sum of fractions with different denominators you must first multiply the denominators to find the denominator of the resulting fraction. To get the numerator you must multiply in cross. That is, you must multiply the numerator of the first fraction by the denominator of the second, and the denominator of the first by the numerator of the second. And both multiplications add up. All this is:

\frac{1}{2} +\frac{3}{4} =\frac{1*4+3*2}{2*4} =\frac{4+6}{8} =\frac{10}{8}

The simplification of a fraction consists in transforming it into a simpler equivalent fraction. In the simplification of fractions, numerator and denominator are divided by the same number. In this case both are divided by two, obtaining:

<em>\frac{10}{8} =\frac{\frac{10}{2} }{\frac{8}{2} } =\frac{5}{4} </em>

This number is an improper fraction, this is a fraction in which the numerator is greater than the denominator.

This will be converted to mixed number. For that the numerator is divided by the denominator . The quotient of the previous division becomes the integer of the mixed number.  The rest of the division is the numerator of the fraction.  The denominator is the same as that of the fraction.

So in this case <em>\frac{5}{4} = 1 \frac{1}{4}</em>

The whole part of this mixed number is 1 and must be added to the whole part you already have. Note that previously it had 2 and 1 as whole parts of the numbers. Then the sum will be:

<em>2+1+1=4</em>

Therefore, the sum of the mixed fractions is:

<u><em>2 \frac{1}{2} + 1 \frac{3}{4}=4\frac{1}{4}</em></u>

<u><em>So, Betty bought 4\frac{1}{4} of meat.  Or put another way she bought 4 full portions of meat plus a 1/4 portions of meat.</em></u>

Answer:

The value of x in terms of b is: \mathbf{x=-\frac{6}{2b}}

The value of x when b is 3 is: x = -1

Step-by-step explanation:

We are given the function: -2(bx-5)=16

First we need to find

The value of x in terms of b

We need to find value of x

-2(bx-5)=16

Multiply -2 with terms inside the bracket

-2bx+10=16

Subtract 10 from both sides

-2bx+10-10=16-10\\-2bx=6

Divide both sides by -2b

\frac{-2bx}{-2b}=\frac{6}{-2b}\\x=-\frac{6}{2b}

So, The value of x in terms of b is: \mathbf{x=-\frac{6}{2b}}

The value of x when b is 3

We have the equation for the value of x in terms of b:

\mathbf{x=-\frac{6}{2b}}

Put b = 3

x=-\frac{6}{2(3)}\\x=-\frac{6}{6}\\x=-1

So, The value of x when b is 3 is: x = -1
