Area of a rectangle = l * w

l = length

w = width

In this problem,

w = x

l = 2x - 4

Area = 70 in^2.

Plug these numbers into the area formula above.

70 = (2x - 4)x.

Distribute the x

70 = 2x^2 - 4x.

Subtract 70 from both sides

0 = 2x^2 -4x - 70

Factor the expression on the right side

0 = 2(x - 7) (x + 5) .

Set each term equal to zero

2 = 0.

x + 5 = 0.

Subtract 5 from each side

x = -5. Side lengths cannot he negative so we need to check the last term

x - 7 = 0

Add 7 to each side

x = 7

The width = 7 and we know that the length = 2(width) - 4, therefore,

l = 2(7) - 4

Simplify the expression

l = 10

The length is 10 inches and the width is 7 inches

Suppose g(x)=f(x+2)-3
kap26 [50]

The transformations which map f(x) to g(x) according to the equation are; Translation of f(x) 2 units to the left and 3 units upwards.

Which translations maps f(x) to g(x)?

The equation given in the task content is as follows;

 • g(x)=f(x+2)-3

It therefore follows that the transformations which would produce function g(x) from f(x) involves a 2 units translation to the left and a 3 units translation upward.

Remarks:

The complete question requires that the transformations from f(x) to g(x) be identified.

How do you simplify expressions
Nutka1998 [239]
First of all, to simplify expressions we use the PEMDAS
then we do the right needed inverse to move the variables all to one side and the other numbers to another... this is a way we simplify expressions

Hope this helps :)

scoundrel [369]
Use the trip back to calculate total distance. If Brenda drives 30 mph for 6 hours then she has traveled 180 miles. Now we know it is 180 miles from her house to the train station. If she drove this in 5 hours instead, just divide 180 by 5 to get an average speed of 36 mph.
