President Lincoln was against slavery, and the spread of slavery. In his Peoria speech (1854) he expressed to the people that he was against it. He continued to express that he was against it during his run for presidency.
I suppose the C is right, because at that time,Spain and Portugal take advantage of slave and cane to be rich, they buy the black people from African to plant sugar cane.
