What is genetic equilibrium? what conditions are required to maintain genetic equiibrium?

Biology

The genetic equilibrium represents the condition of a genotype or an allele in the genetic pool of a particular population, where there are no changes in the frequency in the successive generations. This basically means that the population has managed to reach the peak of its evolution for the environment in which it leaves, so there's no evolutionary pressure for changes.

In order for the genetic equilibrium to be maintained for prolonged period of time, the population should not face any evolutionary pressure that will cause changes in it. In essence, this means that the environment in which the population lives should remain exactly the same as it is for longer period of time, so the population will have no need to change its appearance or behavior.

Suppose you have monohybrid flowers in your garden and find that they produce black seeds to brown seeds in the ratio of 3:1. If
Dvinal [7]
Hybrid = having one recessive and one dominant allele
This means that all of the flowers must have the genotype Bb.
Knowing this, let's make a Punnet Square.

\begin{tabular}{ l c } & B \ \ \ \ b\\ B & \boxed{BB}\boxed{Bb} \\ b & \boxed{Bb\ }\boxed{\ bb} \\ \end{tabular}

As you can see, 3 of these are going to have the dominant trait and 1 is going to have the recessive trait. This corresponds to our 3:1 in our question, meaning that the black seeds must be dominant and the brown ones recessive.

Because they are dominant, the genotype for black seeds could be BB <em /><em>or</em> Bb.

Why do eukaryotic cells undergo mitosis?
vodomira [7]
Hello

Most eukaryotic cells that are not involved in the production of gametes undergo mitosis. These cells, known as somatic cells, are important to the survival of eukaryotic organisms, and it is essential that somatic parent and daughter cells do not vary from one another.

Hope this helps

Some protists can reproduce both sexually and asexually. What's a major advantage of each?
Neporo4naja [7]

Answer:

(A). Sexual reproduction increases genetic diversity, and asexual reproduction can be more rapid.

Explanation:

Sexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction, which involves formation of new organisms by combination of genetic information from two organisms of different sexes. The major advantage of sexual reproduction is to develop genetic diversity as new organism is produced by mixing up genetic material of both the parents.

On the other hand, asexual reproduction involves formation of new organisms from a single parent having identical genetic makeup as present in parent cell.  One of the major advantage of asexual reproduction is to produce high number of offspring in less time as it is more rapid than sexual reproduction.

Thus, the correct answer is option (A).
