Answer: The numbers are 7 and 5

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the first number be x and the second number be y.

From the first statement , it was said that one of the number is two more than the other , that is

x - y = 2  .................. equation 1

square of x is x^{2} and the square of y is y^{2} , the difference between thier squares implies

x^{2} - y^{2} = 24 .............. equation 2

solving the resulting simultaneous equations by substitution method:

From equation 1 , make x the subject of the formula , that is

x = 2 + y ............. equation 3

substitute equation 3 into equation 2 , we have

(2+y)^{2} - y^{2} = 24

Expanding , we have

y^{2} + 4y + 4 - y^{2}  = 24

4y + 4 = 24

Subtract 4 from both sides

4y = 20

y = 20/4

y = 5

substitute y = 5 into equation 3 , we have

x = 5+ 2

x = 7

Therefor the numbers are 7 and 5

Answer: x = 7; y = 5

Step-by-step explanation:

Let's call the first number x and the second number y so we can form a system in which:

x - y = 2

x²   -   y² = 24

isolating x from the first equation:

x = 2 + y

replacing x that is worth 2 + y in the second equation

(2 + y)²  -  y²  = 24

4 + 2 . 2 . y +  y²  - y²  = 24

4 + 4y = 24

4y = 24 - 4

4y = 24

y =  20/4

y = 5

substituting the y that is worth 5 in the first equation:

x - y = 2

x - 5 = 2

x = 2 + 5

x = 7

I hope this help

Use rulers and compasses to draw a line which is perpendicular to line AB at point C
netineya [11]

Answer:

Draw a line AB

Take a point C on AB

Fix the tip of compass at C and with a fix radius, cut AB on both sides of C

Mark those points D and E

Fix the tip of compass on D, and with the same radius, draw an arc above C

Do the same with E

Those two arcs will intersect at a point, mark the point F

Make a line passing through both C and F

Line CF is perpendicular to AB

Answer:

  y +1 = -3(x -3)

Step-by-step explanation:

The given point is (3, -1), and the given slope is -3. The form suggests you want the point-slope form of the equation for the line:

  y -k = m(x -h) . . . . . . . . line with slope m through point (h, k)

Using the given values, the equation is ...

  y -(-1) = -3(x -3)

  y +1 = -3(x -3)

Leah knit a scarf that is 130 centimeters long, Theo knit a scarf that is 4/3 as long
Delvig [45]

Answer: Theo's scarf is  173 + 1/3 centimeters long.

Step-by-step explanation:

The scarf of Leah is 130 centimeters long.

The one of Theo is 4/3 as long as the one of Leah, then we have that the length of the scarf of Theo is:

Lenght = (4/3)*130 cm =(4*130)/3 cm =520/3 cm

Now, we know that if all the digits of a number add up to a multiple of 3, that number is divisible by 3.

520/3 = (519 + 1)/3 = 519/3 + 1/3 = 173 + 1/3

Theo's scarf is  173 + 1/3 centimeters long.
